Architect river cruises, new family offerings and an eye-catching mural
Through December 2020, CAC building and neighborhood walking tours (departing from locations other than the Center at 111 E. Wacker Dr.) will be available for purchase on our website on the 15th of the month prior to the month of the scheduled departure—that’s two to six weeks in advance of each tour. Please check back each month for new tour departures and please note that capacity remains strictly limited. Book only the tours you intend to take and please let us know if your plans change and you’re unable to attend. This allows us to serve all of our valued members equally—thank you for your consideration. Previously purchased tickets for CAC tours remain valid and will be honored on their original dates unless otherwise noted.
As a CAC member, you’re the first to know about September’s limited-edition CAFC River Cruises with top architects on board, whose firms designed buildings you’ll see along the water. Save these dates, as each event occurs one time only and is discounted for CAC members. These limited-edition, Thursday evening river cruises include a glass of Champagne, time for Q&A with the guest architect and, for non-members, FREE Center admission within seven days.

Sounding Boards is a mural-centered initiative organized by members of CAC Industry Council member Eastlake Studio in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, with proceeds funding materials, supporting artists and benefiting My Block, My Hood, My City’s Small Business Relief Fund. More than 25 Sounding Boards murals have been created to date, including a permanent unity wall at the Hope Learning Academy Chicago, seen here in progress, and a Chicago Blackhawks mural originally installed just around the corner from the CAC.
Despite the challenges presented by an ongoing pandemic, Eastlake Studio welcomed another CAC Teen Fellow this summer, Zion E. Wilson Chambers, an incoming freshman at Iowa State University and an extremely talented yo-yo enthusiast. “Zion interacted with different studio members every day, ranging from architects and interior designers to our communications manager and studio librarian,” says Eastlake Studio Founding Principal Tom Zurowski, AIA.
“Everyone at Eastlake enjoyed this short time with Zion and wishes him well in his studies. We hope to be able to bring him back next summer when everyone is back in the studio.”
“The office was very welcoming to me,” says Zion. “I enjoyed getting to go on site visits and actually contribute design ideas. It was interesting to see how interior design firms differ from architecture firms. I enjoyed sketching ideas in the office for actual projects and being included in conversations and meetings. I would definitely do it again.”
