Cecile McLorin Salvant: Ogresse

"A stunningly original epic ... full of unexpected detours." — Wall Street Journal

Cécile McLorin Salvant's 'Ogresse'

w/ 13-Piece Ensemble arranged & conducted by Darcy James Argue

WED, MAR 11 · 8PM
PARAMOUNT THEATRE

Vocalist, composer, and 3-time GRAMMY winner Cécile McLorin Salvant performs the West Coast premiere of her new dramatic and original song cycle created in collaboration with arranger and conductor Darcy James Argue. Ogresse is a romantic “fairytale-like” story about a devilish monster-woman who finds herself in love with a man, bringing together Salvant's her interests in musical theater, mythology and visual art, while touching on French jazz, bluegrass, and beyond.

Comprised of top-tier jazz musicians and a string ensemble, the concert brings to life a genre-defying musical landscape dreamed up by Salvant and Argue. New York Music Daily calls the groundbreaking work "spine-tingling ... worth seeing twice."
