Don’t miss two of the freshest musical groups innovating the Celtic sound in concert at Montalvo: We Banjo 3 & Skerryvore bring modern tunes with influences from Ireland and Scotland to Montalvo on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:30pm!
Guaranteed to get your toes tapping, Ireland’s We Banjo 3 (pictured) finds common ground between old world tradition and authentic Americana by blending banjo, fiddle, guitar, and mandolin in a fusion of styles they dub “Celtgrass.”
Skerryvore are two-time winners of Scotland’s Traditional Music “Live Act of the Year” Award (2016 & 2011). Their sound is a thrilling combination of folk, traditional, rock, and pop, steeped in the vibrant personalities of their eight band members.

Did you know that Montalvo provides support for over 6,000 Title 1 students in the Bay Area each year in the form of tickets to our educational programs and student performances, busing stipends, and scholarships? It's true—and your gifts are what help make that happen.
Our Arts Education Programs provide a broad range of relevant, responsive, and compelling offerings that celebrate the creative spirit, engage the imagination, and develop the artist in all of us. If you'd like to give generously to help students access these programs, please contact our Development Director Emma Moon or show your support by clicking the Donate button below.
Four Bridges, a new commission at Montalvo created by Lucas Artists Fellow Howard Hersh, is a sound installation designed to be heard by listeners over mobile devices as they walk through our beautiful woodland environment. It features children’s choir, instrumental music, readings of poetry, and archival recordings.
The walk, which begins in Parking Lot 2 and is marked by a series of signs throughout the trails, intersperses light, airy, and playful interludes with sober passages and subject matter.
In order to experience this original piece, download our mobile app (for iOS) and listen to the tracks there as you follow the tour map, or download the mp3 files directly to your phone. You can also check out headphones from our Box Office if you forgot to bring your own. (NOTE: The mobile app will also be used for our upcoming exhibition, Bruce Munro at Montalvo: Stories in Light, so keep it on your phone and return for added tour content!)
Four Bridges is also part of “New Terrains: Mobility and Migration”—a collaborative project spearheaded by numerous South Bay arts organizations that presents exhibitions, programs, and experiences exploring how bodies move through spaces.
It's your last chance to register for two upcoming art classes, because both are filling up quickly!
On Wednesday, September 5 from 6-8pm, take watercolor painting to the next level in Mixed Mediums: Watercolor & Oil Pastel. The fluidity of the paint combined with the creamy consistency of oil pastel makes for beautiful and dynamic textures on the page. In this workshop taught by professional artist Dana Harel, you'll learn how to apply these mediums together to create new effects with brushes and color sticks.
On Tuesday & Thursday evenings from September 25-October 30, try your hand at Wheel Form Ceramics! Working on Montalvo’s own pottery wheels, you'll learn various building, trimming, glazing, and surface design techniques. A small group size ensures individual guidance, and your enrollment fee includes materials, plus six days of instruction and five days of optional additional studio time. Teacher Sue Kang is a potter from Korea who has been practicing ceramic arts for more than 30 years; her pieces can be seen locally at Sue's Gallery Cafe in Saratoga.
