#OSAYS

#OSAYS

Our Stories are Your Stories (OSAYS) is a grassroots awareness campaign highlighting Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) voices through video storytelling. The #OSAYS team created videos from members of our AANHPI community and shared their stories throughout the month of May. Their Toolkit describes how you can tell your video story year-round and have it preserved in the Wing Luke Museum’s oral history archives. Visit this year's campaign here. Revisit our contribution to last year's #OSAYS campaign: a PNB is Listening panel featuring PNB artists speaking about their AANHPI heritage and the stories they share.

PNB is Listening: Mental Health Awareness

PNB is Listening: Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In this special edition of PNB is Listening, PNB School Consulting Therapist and former PNB dancer Josh Spell interviews New York City Ballet principal dancer Megan Fairchild about her book, The Ballerina Mindset: How To Protect Your Mental Health While Striving For Excellence.

PNB School has five signed copies of Megan Fairchild's new book, The Ballerina Mindset, to give away to students! To enter, please submit your written answer to the prompt, "Tell us about the ways that you choose to take care of yourself and your mental health as a dancer." Submissions will close on Thursday, June 30, and we will contact book giveaway winners by mid-July. Click here to learn more and submit your answers!

Wash Masks

One Thousand Books for One Thousand Dreams: Ongoing

We are helping WashMasks with their goal to provide one thousand culturally responsive and relevant books to children of farmworkers in Washington State, starting with Lower Yakima Valley. You can view their wishlist for culturally responsive books or purchase directly through Bookshop.org, which gives a portion of profits to independent bookstores. Choose your favorite bookstore to support or support WashMasks partner Estelita’s Library.

Please contact Kristen Ramer Liang (she/her) at kliang@pnb.org or Lauren Kirchner (she/her) at lkirchner@pnb.org with any questions about our partnership with WashMasks.

Books by PNBers

Books by PNBers

We're sure you know by now that PNB Faculty and the whole PNB Community is multi-talented. But did you know there are multiple published authors in our midst? Most recently, PNB Faculty member Dina McDermott self-published her second book, Birds of a Feather. Ms. McDermott's memoir invites the reader to contemplate their own ancestry and lineage and how our pasts shape our present and future. Read more about the books in our PNB Community's repertoire on the PNB Blog! In addition to Ms. McDermott's two books, our list features work by Marjorie Thompson, Once Upon a Dance, and Peter Boal.
