Sudeep Kumar is a teacher, painter, illustrator, and urban sketch artist using use charcoal, ink pen, watercolor, and as little and as simple of materials as possible to capture the energy of a location he feels connected to, searching for a deeper meaning. After scouting locations, he produces the bulk of each piece on site making the artwork more lively and energetic, adding only finishing touches in the studio. Kumar intends to present these urban spaces “not as noisy backdrops, but as living, breathing stories. Each piece is a whisper from the city — an invitation to slow down and see.” These pieces also act as portraits of human emotion underneath the day-to-day hardships and the mundane.

“In today's world of technological advancement, I feel we as a species are losing touch with our surroundings, our environment and our fellow human beings. The real connection or intimacy is missing.”

Step into the quiet poetry of the everyday. Urban Whispers invites you to pause, observe, and rediscover the soul of the city through a series of intimate, watercolors and drawings inspired by real places. These works capture the subtle beauty of overlooked streetscapes, forgotten corners, and fleeting moments — the kind we often pass by but rarely notice.

"Art for me is like a meditation, a silent conversation with self. It’s a means by which I see things more clearly. Spontaneity, unpredictability and self-discovery in making the art work constantly excite me!"

A "First Fridays" reception has been scheduled for this THURSDAY, July 3, in lieu of the holiday. Join us for light bites and meet the artist from 6-8 PM on the second floor of the Eisemann Center lobby.
