As we look ahead to the school year I wanted to pop into your email to let you know about a few exciting opportunities coming up from Science World and our friends.

We are thrilled to welcome back field trips to the dome and to continue to provide online experiences for those who aren't able to visit in person. Find out about our Fall offerings:

Field Trips to Science World

Online School Programs

FIELD TRIP AND PROGRAM RESERVATION WILL OPEN IN MID-SEPTEMBER; PROGRAM DELIVERY BEGINS OCTOBER 1.

Class Bursary

Do you have a class in grades K–12 that you would like to receive an online program or bring on a field trip to Science World? Science World is delighted to offer bursaries for underserved schools once again.

Choose from:

  • Online Science Adventure for one class (100% of program fees)
  • Online Tech-Up Workshop for one class (100% of program fees)
  • Field Trip to Science World for up to two classes per request (100% of general admission and program fees, and return transportation: school bus fees or a TransLink invoice up to $500 unless otherwise identified).

Bursaries are available for ONE of the above offerings per school year per teacher request. If your school requires more than one bursary please complete a separate application for additional requests.

Science World is thrilled to be taking part in the Canadian Association of Science Centre's Week of Wonder in partnership with Exploring By The Seat Of Your Pants to celebrate Science Literacy Week.

Join 20 of Canada's Science Centres, Museums and STEM Outreach organizations for five days of Climate & Science-themed FREE online learning presentations! Each day will feature 4 sessions, including 1 fully French session.

We invite teachers, students and classrooms from across Canada and the world to take part in an amazing cross-country collaboration of science literacy to kick off the school year.

Save the dates: September 20-24, 2021. A full calendar of events and detailed list of presentations is available now (note: if viewing on a phone you will need to scroll down past the menu).

POWER UP YOUR CLASS WITH POWER SMART FOR SCHOOLS

Our partners at BC Hydro have got you covered for back to school this year with over 150 curriculum-aligned, energy-focused activities for K-12.

Did you know they offer interactive, virtual classroom presentations as well? Your students could learn all about clean energy concepts and the science behind them.

Resources

GO Grants - Apply before September 1! HCTF Get Outdoor Grants support outdoor biodiversity field trips or projects for K-12 classes and schools in BC. GO Grants cover transportation, project materials and/or program fees to help teachers take their students outdoors to learn about and experience some of BC's biodiversity.

Activities to start the school year: I love starting the school year with discrepant events, those demonstrations that have a startling or unexpected outcome, to get students in an inquiry mindset. Check out my favourites:

-Cup and Card

-Oobleck

-What's in the Bottle?

-Swirling Milk / Tourbillon de lait
