Teaching Colleagues,
Here we are, launching into 2023…and our January plans are rooted in you: we know that most high school teachers teach Shakespeare during second semester, and that the most commonly taught play is R and J. (Hello, ninth-grade English!)
With that in mind, the January line-up consists of two PD sessions – and one is a two-day course that will take you and your students through a whole unit – Teaching Romeo & Juliet with the Folger Method. Waiting for you there: the tools, mindset, and classroom practice that your students need to catch up . . . and also the exciting and energetic teaching and collaborative community that you need too! As always, joy and rigor work hand-in-hand here!
THURSDAY, JANUARY 12th, 8:00-9:00 PM (ET)
--An hour-long lesson-focused sneak peek into the upcoming Folger Guide To Teaching Romeo and Juliet – also a sneak peek into what you will get in the Folger unit, two-day course. As always, CEUs available to Teacher Members. See more below.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, JANUARY 27th and 28th, 10:00 AM-5:00 PM (ET)
--The Teaching Romeo and Juliet with the Folger Method two-day online course takes you through a brilliant (if we do say so ourselves) 5-week unit. Scholarships available – also CEUs and grad school credit. See more below.
Both of the above led by the excellent Dr. Deborah Gascon and Amber Phelps, both Folger mentor teachers, working high school teachers extraordinaire, and the authors of the R+J unit that is central to The Folger Guide to Teaching Romeo and Juliet (to be published by Simon and Schuster in late 2023).
Keep reading . . . and here’s to a year of your classrooms filled with shouts, whispers, and active zones of thoughtful discovery. And let us help with that!
Huzzah!
