CSO African American Network Newsletter

September 2023

A note from AAN Advisory Board Member Dr. Rosalind Jackson

Growing up in New Orleans, a city with a long history of infused music and food from many cultures rooted in the African American experience, I treasure the opportunity to be exposed not only to classical music but also other genres at the CSO. The anticipation and excitement brought on by CSO performances and artists from around the world is a truly electric experience. Every concert is an eye-opener in celebration of the excellence and professionalism by the members of the Orchestra and Maestro Muti. So, do I sound a little enthusiastic … well I am a life-long fan! I encourage all to come to the CSO and experience its excellence in the various music programs and series.

This year, I have the opportunity to serve on the African American Network (AAN) Advisory Board. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Advisory Board and within the AAN to advocate the appreciation of classical and other music genres by Chicagoland’s African American and African-descended communities.
