The world’s top-selling jazz instrumentalist returns for nine shows featuring an all-star band that includes B3 organ great Joey DeFrancesco, rising vocalist star Veronica Swift, pianist Eldar Djangirov, violinist Sandy Cameron and more. The trumpet superstar is currently one of the most important, innovative figures of the contemporary music world. He has collaborated with everyone from Yo-Yo Ma and Herbie Hancock to Paul Simon and Sting, and is as likely to play the second movement of Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” as he is Al Green’s grooving “Let’s Stay Together”.

While the legendary saxophonist recovers from an illness, friends from his musical family will gather to celebrate the NEA Jazz Master's incredible body of work. For these historic concerts celebrating the 11-time GRAMMY winner and recent Kennedy Center Honors recipient, a wonderful group of his musical "family members" will perform music from his celebrated career along with Shorter's longtime band members. Artists scheduled to perform in various configurations throughout the four-day residency include Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, Kamasi Washington, Terence Blanchard, Joshua Redman, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Terrace Martin along with Shorter's longtime band Brian Blade, Danilo Pérez, and John Patitucci.

NEA Jazz Master Branford Marsalis is, as the Los Angeles Times dubbed him, “the highest echelon of jazz tenor saxophonists.” An uncompromising artist and three-time GRAMMY winner, Marsalis returns with his explosive quartet featuring pianist Joey Calderazzo, bassist Eric Revis, and Justin Faulkner on drums.
Renowned Montreal-based DJ, composer, and music producer Kid Koala returns with his enchanting adaptation of his graphic novel Nufonia Must Fall in a revolutionary multi-disciplinary performance that mixes live Puppet Theater and video projection with an ensemble of strings, piano, and electronic instruments.
For one night only, over 60 legends and rising stars perform in unique collaborations to honor Chucho Valdés. This lively and influential fundraiser directly supports SFJAZZ artistic and school programs. All tickets include premium open bar, cuisine from our favorite neighborhood spots, and access to the After Party.
