Hiya!

It feels like summer’s barely over, yet somehow we’ve already had two weeks of panto rehearsals (!!) – which this year is Jack and the Beanstalk by award-winning playwright Chloë Moss, directed by Kash Arshad. The songs are stuck in our heads, there’s sparkly stuff everywhere, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

In case you missed my last email, tomorrow is the national Playwrights Flashmob! Writers around the country will be descending simultaneously on their local theatres to chat, work and huddle around mugs of tea – so read on for details of our version.

We also have two new Production Process workshops on offer for November and December – one for writers with me, and one for actors with Nathan.

There’s also loads of Opportunities floating around, so I’ve included a bunch of those at the end.

Finally, if you’re near the Everyman, make sure you come in to see the Black Actors Collective Exhibition (until Sat 1 Nov). Some beautiful portraits by Ean Flanders, and an introduction to some of the fantastic Black artists making work in the city.

Coming up for us

Playwrights Flashmob
Friday 24 October, 11.30am-2.30pm
Writers’ Room, Everyman Theatre

Spearheaded by the brilliant Anna Jordan (the multi award-winning Succession) and Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (the Olivier Award-winning Emilia), playwrights all over the country are gathering at their local theatres for a day of co-working, community and solidarity – and probably some gossip for good measure.

We had such a great time hosting local playwrights last year, we’re joining in again!

Following the outline for Anna and Morgan’s session in London, we’ll start with introductions and a period of focussed co-working, then move on to the social part.

For more information about the Support Playwrights initiative, check out their Substack.

Homotopia Festival
Throughout November

Liverpool’s favourite LGBTQIA+ arts organisation is gearing up for a month of brilliant events – some of which we’re hosting!

From comedy workshops to performances to a showcase for the Homotopia Writers’ Award, we’ve got loads going on through November at the Everyman & Playhouse.

Making an entrance: Audition technique for stage
with Nathan Powell (Creative Director)
Thursday 4 December, multiple slots

What are directors looking for in an audition? How can you prepare to give your best, whilst staying flexible in the moment? Through a mixture of workshop, scene study and conversation, Nathan will share insights from his side of the table.

Deadline: Monday 3 November

For this Artist Takeover residency, Factory is looking for dancers, movement artists, choreographers and movement/dance collectives who want to take over the space and explore technology within their creative practice.

From the theatre that brought us animal choreography in Figures in Extinction, dancers flying through the air in Free Your Mind and the text messages interpreted as movement in The Accountants, this is a pretty exciting opportunity.
