HONOLULU, HAWAI‘I—This month, the public can experience Chuseok, Korea’s biggest holiday of the year, at the Honolulu Museum of Art.
Chuseok is dedicated to family, honoring ancestors, and feasting together. Guests can celebrate through a cultural evening of art, film, food, and music.

HoMA is believed to be the first museum in the country to have a gallery dedicated to Korean art. Guests can explore ceramics, paintings, and textiles in the Korea Gallery, then head to the Chinese Courtyard for “Look Back, Gather Forward.” Two University of Hawai‘i professors have curated a Korean cultural experience—guests can enjoy a display of archival images of Korean art at the Museum and put on an Oculus headset for a virtual reality experience of the rich history and enduring cultural legacy of Koreans in Hawai‘i.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea is holding a Chuseok Passport Challenge—guests can visit participating vendors to collect six stamps and receive a complimentary gift bag.
A screening of the documentary Super Dining: Korean Chefs in New York kicks off the 2026 Korean Independent Film Showcase: Intimate Korea.
After viewing art, visitors can make their own at a bojagi (traditional wrapping cloth) lantern workshop.
Serving
up Korean flavors will be Rice Burger & Café, Rice
Blossoms Hawaii, and I Heart Kimchi. At HoMA Café, sous chef Chea Hong has created a specials menu of spicy ‘ahi tartare, Korean-style Maui Nui venison sliders, prawn linguini with gochujang cream sauce, and grilled kanpachi with Korean-style potato salad, pa-kimchi, and bok choy.
Guests
can also write a note of gratitude and place it in a moon under the guidance of
writer and University of Hawai‘i professor Gary Pak, try on Korean finery at a
hanbok dress-up station, and enjoy performances of traditional and contemporary
Korean music.
About HoMA Nights
