Spring Music Makers Haciendo Música Parent Newsletter

Dear Parents and Families, 

We are about six weeks away from recitals! At this point in the year, students will start to select their recital pieces, polish them and have “mock” recitals in class. Polishing a piece means making sure there are no wrinkles or places that a student stumbles. In those places, we encourage drilling a few measures or repeating many times to ensure it is just right. The goal is that the piece is known well enough to play from beginning to end without stopping and that the student feels confident enough to add other musical elements like dynamics or tempo changes. 

If a challenge in your child’s practice exceeds for more than a week, please contact your teacher for additional support. Our teachers are very skilled and knowledgeable in helping students get back on track or determining the roadblock. 

In this issue, we provide you with ideas to continue your child’s music education with summer music camps, how to navigate challenges with other activities, and how to attend Bravo! Vail Music Festival concerts including joining the Bravo! Vail Presto Club. 

We hope to see you at one of the many events that are meant to inspire the musician inside every child!

Community

You are invited to the Family Bowling Party Sunday, March 15, 12 PM-2 PM

Teen Council invites you to our Bowling Party!  Come hang out with friends and family to play a few games and enjoy some pizza! Open to all enrolled families. Limited to 30 participants. Please show up promptly at 12:00 PM to enjoy lunch, get your shoes and then we will start playing at 1:00 PM. Late arrivals will be placed in the remaining open lanes. This event is FREE but donations are accepted. Donations will benefit our Music Makers Haciendo Música Private Lesson Fund for students. Please sign up by March 13th.

Bravo! Vail Presto Club

The Presto Club is an opportunity for students ages 8-14 to gather at select Orchestral Series concerts to socialize, engage with a designed interactive booklet during concerts, and participate in curated, post-concert Artist Meet & Greet opportunities.  Students will be under the care and supervision of Education & Engagement staff. 

  • Sit together on the lawn to enjoy concert with provided snacks and drinks, or bring your own

  • Receive interactive booklet to help understand and engage with the concert

  • Invitation to post-concert Artist Meet & Greet

  • Meet new friends

How to Participate

  • Purchase lawn tickets or utilize your lawn pass.

  • Link to sign up will be in the pre-concert email sent the day before the concert

  • Drop off students at the Presto Club spot on the lawn before the concert and pick them up after (Parents or guardians must be in attendance at the concert in case of emergency.)

Summer Music Camp Opportunities


Summertime is a great time to focus on interests at a higher level, to meet friends who love the same things you do, and to visit interesting places. 

If you have a child who loves music and can’t get enough of it, check out these great opportunities in our region. Please check with your class teacher or private teacher for which camp is best for your child

Navigating Music & Other Activities

One of the challenges that keeps coming up for families involved in our program is navigating conflicts with other activities. 

Our program provides one weekly group class session for approximately 27 weeks with two required recitals. The more advanced ensemble classes may run a bit longer and have a few more outreach recitals scheduled.  

Because our program only meets once a week, and students are preparing for an event that requires preparations at a detailed and high level, the once-a-week attendance is crucial to develop confidence and skills that will lead to a successful recital. Missing weeks of classes due to conflicts with other activities, whether it be sports, theatre, or other clubs, is just not fair to the student, their classmates, or the teacher. When that student returns to the class, the teacher is not able to catch the student up while other students are further ahead. 

So what is a student to do? Well, at some point if conflicts with other activities are getting in the way of music class, it may be time to make a choice between the two activities. A student and the parent may also talk to the teacher of the other activity to see if a compromise can be made so that attendance at the once-a-week activity is prioritized over the activity that meets multiple times a week.

Welcome to the newest member of Teen Council: Jack Palmer

The Teen Council meets once a month to discuss leadership and volunteer opportunities as well as ideas for social events. If you have a student ages 12-18 that would like to join Teen Council, please contact us at education@bravovail.org

The next social event will be Family Bowling on March 15 (see above to sign up.)

Congratulations to Trygg Myran and Parker Rohwer

Congratulations to Trygg Myran, violin and Parker Rohwer, cello (Teen Chamber Ensemble) who participated in the Colorado All-State Orchestra Feb 5-7 at the Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Students across the state auditioned in October and were selected among hundreds of applicants. The experience included preparing the music ahead of time, auditioning again upon arrival for a seat placement, and then rehearsing long hours leading up to a public concert. This experience was made possible through their participation in the Battle Mountain High School orchestra program.

Spring Music Makers Haciendo Música – Boletín para Padres  

Estimados padres y familias: 

¡Estamos a unas seis semanas de los recitales! En este punto del año, los estudiantes comenzarán a seleccionar sus piezas para el recital, perfeccionarlas y realizar recitales “simulados” en clase. Perfeccionar una pieza significa asegurarse de que no haya tropiezos o partes en las que el estudiante se detenga. En esos casos, fomentamos practicar algunos compases repetidamente para asegurar que todo esté correcto. El objetivo es que la pieza se conozca lo suficientemente bien como para tocarla de principio a fin sin detenerse y que el estudiante se sienta con la confianza necesaria para añadir otros elementos musicales como dinámicas o cambios de tempo. 

 Si alguna dificultad en la práctica de su hijo(a) se prolonga por más de una semana, por favor comuníquese con su maestro(a) para recibir apoyo adicional. Nuestros maestros son muy capacitados y cuentan con amplia experiencia para ayudar a los estudiantes a retomar el rumbo o identificar cualquier obstáculo. En esta edición, les ofrecemos ideas para continuar la educación musical de su hijo(a) con campamentos de música de verano, cómo afrontar los desafíos que surgen con otras actividades y cómo asistir a los conciertos del Bravo! Vail Music Festival, incluyendo cómo unirse al Bravo! Vail Presto Club.

Están invitados a la Fiesta Familiar de Boliche Domingo, 15 de marzo, 12 PM-2 PM

¡El Consejo Juvenil los invita a nuestra Fiesta de Boliche! Vengan a disfrutar con amigos y familiares, jugar algunas partidas y compartir pizza. Abierto a todas las familias inscritas. Cupo limitado a 30 participantes. Por favor lleguen puntualmente a las 12:00 PM para disfrutar del almuerzo, recoger sus zapatos y comenzar a jugar a la 1:00 PM. Las personas que lleguen tarde serán ubicadas en las pistas disponibles. Este evento es GRATUITO, pero se aceptan donaciones. Bravo! Vail Presto Club

El Presto Club es una oportunidad para que estudiantes de 8 a 14 años se reúnan en conciertos seleccionados de la Serie Orquestal para socializar, participar con un cuadernillo interactivo diseñado especialmente para seguir el concierto y formar parte de encuentros organizados con los artistas después del concierto (Artist Meet & Greet).

Los estudiantes estarán bajo el cuidado y la supervisión del personal de Educación y Participación.

Beneficios del Presto Club:

  • Sentarse juntos en el césped para disfrutar del concierto con refrigerios y bebidas incluidos (o pueden traer los suyos).

  • Recibir un cuadernillo interactivo para ayudar a comprender y participar en el concierto.

  • Invitación a un encuentro con los artistas después del concierto.

  • Conocer nuevos amigos.

Cómo participar:

  • Comprar boletos para el área de césped o utilizar su pase para el césped.

  • El enlace para inscribirse se enviará en el correo electrónico previo al concierto, enviado el día anterior.

  • Dejar a los estudiantes en el punto de encuentro del Presto Club en el césped antes del concierto y recogerlos después. (Los padres o tutores deben permanecer en el concierto en caso de emergencia.)

Oportunidades de campamentos de música de verano

El verano es una excelente oportunidad para profundizar en los intereses a un nivel más avanzado, conocer amigos que comparten las mismas pasiones y visitar lugares interesantes. Si tiene un hijo(a) que ama la música y no se cansa de ella, explore estas maravillosas oportunidades en nuestra región.

Por favor, consulte con el maestro(a) de clase o su profesor(a) de lecciones privadas para determinar cuál campamento es el más adecuado para su hijo(a).

Cómo navegar entre la música y otras actividades

Uno de los desafíos que surge con frecuencia para las familias que participan en nuestro programa es cómo manejar los conflictos con otras actividades.

Nuestro programa ofrece una clase grupal semanal durante aproximadamente 27 semanas, con dos recitales obligatorios. Las clases de ensamble más avanzadas pueden extenderse un poco más y tener algunos recitales comunitarios adicionales programados.

Debido a que nuestro programa se reúne solo una vez por semana y los estudiantes se están preparando para un evento que requiere una preparación detallada y de alto nivel, la asistencia semanal es fundamental para desarrollar la confianza y las habilidades necesarias para un recital exitoso. Faltar a varias semanas de clase debido a conflictos con otras actividades, ya sean deportes, teatro u otros clubes, no es justo para el estudiante, sus compañeros ni el maestro(a). Cuando el estudiante regresa a clase, el maestro(a) no puede dedicar tiempo a ponerlo al día mientras los demás ya han avanzado.

Entonces, ¿qué puede hacer un estudiante? En algún momento, si los conflictos con otras actividades están interfiriendo con la clase de música, puede ser necesario tomar una decisión entre ambas actividades. El estudiante y sus padres también pueden hablar con el instructor(a) de la otra actividad para ver si es posible llegar a un acuerdo, dando prioridad a la actividad que se realiza una vez por semana sobre aquella que se reúne varias veces por semana.

Felicitaciones a Trygg Myran y Parker Rohwer

¡Felicitaciones a Trygg Myran, violín, y a Parker Rohwer, violonchelo (Ensamble de Cámara Juvenil), quienes participaron en la Orquesta All-State de Colorado del 5 al 7 de febrero en Colorado State University en Fort Collins!

Estudiantes de todo el estado audicionaron en octubre y fueron seleccionados entre cientos de solicitantes. La experiencia incluyó preparar la música con anticipación, realizar una nueva audición al llegar para la asignación de puesto dentro de la orquesta y ensayar largas horas antes del concierto público.

Esta experiencia fue posible gracias a su participación en el programa de orquesta de Battle Mountain High School.
