A note from Ramiro J. Atristaín-Carrión, Latino Alliance Advisory Board co-chair

Given that this communication is widely read by CSO Latino Alliance members, I thought it opportune to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the following three esteemed Advisory Board members for their recent remarkable achievements:

  • Dr. Francisco Xavier Beteta’s composition “Tikal Nocturna” premiered with the Naperville Youth Symphony at the beginning of March, and another of his compositions, “All Nature Sings: Orchestral Soundscapes,” will be premiered by the Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra on April 20. As an Assistant Professor of Music Composition at Wheaton College, an accomplished pianist and a composer, Xavier’s talent shines through his compositions. You can explore some of his masterpieces on Spotify.

  • José Jesús Del Toro Huerta recently earned his PhD from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He couldn’t join us for our 10th-year celebration due to his inauguration ceremony as a doctor in Madrid, Spain. When back from Madrid, he expressed that this moment marked the culmination of a significant academic journey in journalism and as an editor. Jesús was honored as NAHP’s Latino Publisher of the Year in 2023 and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper La Raza. His dedication to his craft as both a poet and journalist is truly admirable.

  • Melynna Hakim Arreola-Quiroga, our youngest member on the CSO Latino Advisory Board, was recognized as one of the recipients of the 2024 Dr. Juan Andrade, Jr. Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders. She was honored at the Excellence in Latino Educational Achievement Luncheon organized by the US Hispanic Leadership Institute in February. Melynna, a finance student at DePaul University, also generously volunteers her time at Serving People with a Mission, a non-profit that fosters leadership development and community service with high schoolers — a few of whom I was privileged to sponsor to attend a CSO concert in the fall.

Please join me in celebrating these remarkable accomplishments and in applauding the dedication and talent of all of our esteemed Advisory Board members. We are proud of all our members and this time is a good chance to showcase three of them.

Keep enjoying timeless music!
