Dear friends,

Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty...
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance, what are we?
— ABBA

We are just a few weeks shy of one year since the Bay Area first entered shelter-in-place. I am sure many of us did not expect that twelve months later we would be in similar circumstances.

When we began rescheduling our Carriage House performances last year, we were anticipating that springtime would allow us to host indoor events again. Unfortunately, given the ongoing performing arts venue health mandates, this is not a possibility.

But we are in a much more hopeful position than before.

Last month, Dr. Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, said it was likely that a return to indoor performing venues "will occur some time in the fall of 2021, so that by the time we get to early to mid-fall, we can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as people in the audience."

With this in mind, I want to let you know that there will be no live Carriage House shows for the remainder of the current season. I am hopeful that as vaccinations continue to roll out and case counts decrease, we can bring live music back to Montalvo by the end of 2021.

As we near a year without significant event revenue, Montalvo is relying on the generosity of donors like you more than ever to ensure that Silicon Valley has access to the cathartic, healing power of the arts. Will you make a donation in support of Montalvo today? Any amount, no matter how small, makes a difference.

As guidance from the county continues to evolve, it is our hope to be able to present live outdoor music before indoor venues can officially reopen. I know all of us are longing for a return to life before the pandemic and all of the good things we miss—we just have to hold on a little bit longer.

It will be such a welcome celebration—to gather in our beautiful, historic Carriage House to enjoy our stellar concerts together. Until that time comes, please be assured that we are creating inspiring and fun opportunities to remain connected with one another in the coming months—virtually and on site. In fact, I am excited to announce two upcoming virtual concerts:

Taj Mahal

Saturdays, March 13, 20, and 27, 6-8pm
Individual: $18 | Household: $25 | Series: $65

Legendary blues & roots musician Taj Mahal will livestream performances from the UC Theatre in Berkeley, CA. Powered by the Mandolin streaming platform, the series will include a full electric set with different guest stars for each performance. Tickets grant you 48-hour access to the stream in case you can’t join the performance live.

Jeff Daniels Encore

Thursday, March 18, 7pm
Individual: $20 | Household: $30

At the request of many patrons, we are thrilled to be able to offer this encore presentation of Jeff Daniels's fantastic January 28 performance, Alive and Well Enough. Featuring music from his new album, Daniels crafts an intimate, entertaining, and unforgettable evening. Music lovers and movie fans alike will love his songs and musicianship, and the incredible stories that only he can tell.

  All my best,

 Angela Torre McConnell
