Join the Nominating Committee!
Are you looking for a way
to get more involved in the OC? If so, please
consider becoming a part of the Nominating Committee. As we move into the second half of our season, it is
time to begin the process of selecting our next Overture Council
leaders. The Nominating Committee serves
a very important role as it interviews and selects members of the OC to fill open committee chair
positions.
A few key highlights of
the Nominating Committee include:
- The committee consists of one committee chair,
up to three general OC members and the CSO
staff liaison.
- The committee is responsible for soliciting applications for
available Executive Committee positions,
preparing questions for applications and conducting interviews.
- The Nominating Committee presents
its nominations to the current Executive Committee for ratification. Once finalized, the committee informs all applicants whether or not they were
selected.
- Overture
Council members who are interested in applying for available Executive Committee positions may not serve on the Nominating Committee.
- The
estimated total time commitment is about 13-15 hours (depending on
the number of candidates to interview).
If you are interested in
joining the Nominating Committee,
please email overturecouncil@cso.org.
Executive Committee positions opening at the
end of the season include:
- President-Elect
- Core
Members Activities Chair
- External
Relations Chair
- Communications
Chair
- Secretary

Purpose Over
Pain (POP) was formed in 2007 by several Chicago area parents who lost their
children to gun violence. These and other parents who were affected by violence
now have a purpose to be effective in preventing gun violence over merely
living with the pain.
POP provides positive development activities for children and
youth, advocates for and promotes safer communities and strengthens families by
providing crisis support to parents or guardians whose children have been
victims of gun violence.
Purpose Over Pain hosts community events throughout the year
that include the Safe Saturday Nights 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, Mentoring,
Parent Support Days and Unsolved Cases Forums. These events provide a platform
to sensitize the community about the painful effects of gun violence, bring
awareness to common sense preventive solutions and provide a safe and
enjoyable atmosphere for our youth, parents and members of the community.
Join members of Purpose Over Pain and the Civic Orchestra
of Chicago on March 19 at Symphony Center for A Notes for Peace Celebration.
Launched in March 2018, the Notes for Peace project empowers parents who have
lost children to gun violence to create original songs of tribute. With
guidance from the Civic Fellows, guest teaching artists from the U.K.-based
Irene Taylor Trust and professional vocalists, parents compose, perform live
and professionally record their music, which is then featured alongside family
photos and lyrics on notesforpeace.org.
