Come and dance with us in two upcoming classes, both teaching fun and energetic styles that will get you moving your feet. These classes are perfect for anyone at any skill level; sign up as an individual, a couple, or a with a group of friends -- you'll have a blast no matter what!
Start things off on Monday, April 15 from 6-8:30pm with Swing Dance: From the Charleston to Lindy-Hop with instructors Margot Helm and Richard Perkins.
Swing dance has evolved over time from its jazz roots as people have modified their movements according to changing musical styles -- creating a partner dance emphasizing expression, personality, and musicality. Today, "swing dancing" is an umbrella term for dances such as the Charleston, Lindy-Hop, Balboa, and Shag. In this class, you'll learn the basics of these dances and get an introduction to the history behind this beloved and all-American art form.
On Monday, May 20 from 6-8:30pm, get familiar with Afro Pop Dance as you learn the freestyle and street dances that are popular forms of self-expression in Ghana.
After warming up with traditional Ghanaian games to create a sense of community, break inhibitions, and enhance enthusiasm, you'll get to know the basics of contemporary African dances such as Azonto and Akayda (Ghana), Shorkie and Shaku Shaku (Nigeria), Gweta (Togo), Gwaragwara (South Africa), and more. Taught by choreographer Philip Amo Agyapong, this fun class will give you all kinds of new moves to take to the dance floor!
Did you know that we host exclusive pre-show receptions for Montalvo donors prior to certain concerts? These fun gatherings in the historic Villa are the perfect way to enhance your concert experience -- and we've got one coming up at the Four Bitchin' Babes show on Friday, April 5.
Donors who attend receive complimentary wine and light hors d’oeuvres, as well as a chance to meet fellow Montalvo fans! Want to be a part of this party? Join at the $250 level or above and get your tickets to the show, and you'll receive your invitation next week.
