SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL WITH THE COLORADO SYMPHONY CHORUS

Boettcher Concert Hall

MAR 11

The Bard of Avon inspired some of the world’s greatest music for the stage and concert hall. Duain Wolfe leads the Colorado Symphony and Colorado Symphony Chorus in a musical exploration of Shakespeare’s most captivating lines and characters as portrayed in the music of Vaughan Williams, Verdi, Berlioz, and other composers who were caught up in the power of his “music of the spheres.”

SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL: ROMEO AND JULIET

Boettcher Concert Hall

MAR 18-20

The definitive ode to star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet caps the Colorado Symphony’s Shakespeare Festival with a wide-ranging expedition into the music inspired by the timeless drama. The concert covers not only the interpretations of masters like Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, and Berlioz, but the definitively American translation of the play in Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. A quartet of actors perform scenes that dramatically stitch together the beauty of Shakespeare’s words with that of the music inspired by them.
Don't forget to arrive early for the prelude at 6:30 pm (12:00 Sunday) hosted by Catherine Beeson. Preludes are insightful discussions that take place before each Masterworks performance and are included with your concert ticket. - THIS WEEKEND -

IGUDESMAN AND JOO

Boettcher Concert Hall

FEB 27

Nearly 40 million YouTube hits have turned the inspired lunacy of musicians Igudesman & Joo into an internet and international sensation.
Imagine the anarchy of South Park and the Marx Brothers mashed up with the musical virtuosity of pianist Lang Lang and violinist Nigel Kennedy. If Trey Parker and Matt Stone played the violin and piano, if Penn and Teller performed music instead of magic and if Seth Macfarlane had a twin, they would be the brilliantly outrageous Igudesman & Joo. Join the fun as Music Director Andrew Litton conducts this duo, with their astonishing musical and comic talents, to shred the classics using pop culture, comedy, slapstick, and music!

AN EVENING WITH WONDERBOUND

Boettcher Concert Hall

MAR 12

The Colorado Symphony is thrilled to welcome Wonderbound to Boettcher Concert Hall for this one-of-a-kind performance. This program will feature excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s masterpieces, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake, with original choreography from Wonderbound’s own Garrett Ammon. This latest collaboration between two of Denver’s most avant garde and innovative ensembles showcases the diversity of symphonic music and modern dance.

CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS AND THE STORY OF BABAR

Boettcher Concert Hall

MAR 13

This performance deftly introduces little ones to the joys of the orchestra with Carnival of the Animals, one of the best-known pieces by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, with each movement depicting a different animal from the royal lion to the graceful swan. In The Story of Babar, Jean de Brunhoff’s popular children’s story of one little elephant’s epic rise from rags to riches is eloquently set to music by Francis Poulenc, truly a fantastic family experience for all ages. Don't forget to arrive early for HalfNotes pre-concert activities held in in Gallery 2!
