Your Colorado Symphony's 2017/18 Season features some of the best symphonic music ever composed. Joining us is the world’s greatest classical singer, soprano Renée Fleming, living legend cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Olga Kern, violinist Karen Gomyo, and cellist Alban Gerhardt. Plus, we're thrilled to feature our very own Concertmaster Yumi Hwang-Williams, Principal Trumpet Justin Bartels, and Principal Clarinet Jason Shafer.

As always, there’s much more to our season than traditional masterworks. We’ll perform film scores for The Nightmare Before Christmas™ and Jurassic Park™ as we screen the movies live, and we’ll pay tribute to such pop icons as Ella Fitzgerald and Prince. In December, we’ll strike up our colorful parade of holiday concerts, including the return of A Colorado Christmas and two performances of Denver favorite Too Hot to Handel.

Opening Weekend:
Beethoven's Symphony No. 5

SEPT 15 – 17

Boettcher Concert Hall

Hear Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 5 in all its forceful grandeur at Music Director Brett Mitchell’s inaugural Classics concert. Kevin PutsMillennium Canons, a celebratory and optimistic composition written to usher in the new millennium, befits a premiere weekend. Versatile composer Mason Bates joins the Symphony as electronic soloist in The B-Sides: Five Pieces for Orchestra, a symphonic-electronica piece blending jazzy, city-pulse allure with exotic sounds that will sweep you away to another world.

Stravinsky’s The Firebird

OCT 20 – 22

Boettcher Concert Hall

Igor Stravinsky and John Williams are two composers who deftly use symphonic music as dramatic tellings of audacious adventures. Stravinsky is featured twice, notably with the avant-garde and iconic Firebird, which modernized the telling of symphonic love stories with the folkloric saga of love-struck Russian Prince Ivan. Principal Trumpet Justin Bartels debuts the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra by John Williams, who is best known for his riveting film scores in Harry Potter™, Star Wars™, Indiana Jones™, and other hit film series.
