In the spring of
2018, the Colorado Ballet Academy was named after long-time trustee, Raydean
Acevedo. Raydean serves as the co-chair of the Academy Committee for the
Colorado Ballet Board of Trustees, and the impact of her commitment, passion
and generosity cannot be overstated. We are proud to have such a
tremendous friend and advocate in Raydean. Naming the Academy after her
was a small way to honor her extraordinary contributions to Colorado Ballet.
We are thrilled to have Domenico Luciano, Colorado Ballet Company Principal Dancer, join our CBA team! Domenico hails from Naples, Italy, and joined Colorado Ballet in 2013 and was promoted to Principal in 2014. Domenico will be fulfilling the role of Academy Principal on a part-time basis as he continues to dance with Colorado Ballet this season. We look forward to integrating his vast training and knowledge into our curriculum.
The 2018-2019 season promises to be an excellent year to showcase our students with the return of Saturday Soirees, Fall Feature and various free First Friday events that coincide with the Art District on Santa Fe's Art Walk. Our season culminates with a full-length Academy production of Giselle at Ellie Caulkins Opera House for students in Levels 1 through Pre-Professional Division on May 25, 2019. Please consult our calendar for important dates - more information will be provided as we get closer to each event.
Colorado Ballet is excited to start the 2018/2019 Academy year with you. Whether you are new to Colorado Ballet Academy, or one of our treasured returning families, we welcome you!
Sincerely,
Colorado Ballet Academy Team

Dance
Around the World East camp students had the opportunity to perform what they
learned from the Persian Dance Teacher, Delsie Khadem-Ghaeini with the Persian
Cultural Circle, at the Denver International Festival on August 4 at Civic Center Park.
During camp the students also learned Kathak, a traditional dance form from
India, from Carrie
McCune of Sureela Academy.
The Dance Around the World West camp featured Hip-Hop taught by Kevin O’Keefe and American Folk & Square Dance by Chris Kermiet. Chris Kermiet was named a Legend of Dance by the University of Denver Carson Brierly Giffin Dance Library in 2009.
Colorado Ballet Academy has been a chapter sponsor of National Honor Society for Dance Arts since 2015. The National Honor Society for Dance Arts™ (NHSDA) program of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) was created to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership and academic achievement in students studying dance. Colorado Ballet Academy sponsors NHSDA for two levels of induction: The Junior Program for grades 6-8, The Secondary Program for grades 9-12. Colorado Ballet Academy is proud to honor our students and help advance the field of dance education.
Colorado Ballet Academy NHSDA meetings are held once a month from August to May. Check the bulletin board and newsletter for announcements. Interested students and families are welcome anytime as NHSDA is an ongoing activity.
Congratulations to Abbey McWhirter for being our latest inductee to the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. Abbey McWhirter is moving on to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as a High School Junior this year. We wish her well.
