Songbook Academy Updates!

In June, our 2014 winner Maddie Baillio was announced as the star of NBC's upcoming production of Hairspray Live! that will air on December 7. Maddie, who will play the title role of Tracy Turnblad, was chosen at an open casting call with over 1000 auditions. Maddie will perform alongside Harvey Fierstein, Kristin Chenoweth, Derek Hough, Jennifer Hudson, Rosie O'Donnell, and more. We are so proud and excited! Click the video at left to watch Maddie realize she had been cast in the starring role! Keep an eye on our social media channels for regular updates.

In July, we again welcomed forty talented high school vocalists to Carmel for the Songbook Academy. Our 2016 mentors included Janis Siegel, Sylvia McNair, Jarrod Spector, and Marc Cherry. At the end of the week, Brighton Thomas of Burbank, California was named the 2016 Songbook Youth Ambassador. Click here for a list of finalists and award winners from around the country.

In August, FOUR of our past finalists performed at Feinstein's/54 Below in New York City. 2012 and 2013 winners Nick Ziobro and Julia Goodwin presented their duo show on Wednesday, August 24; 2015 Celebration Award winner Hannah Vogelsang joined Michael Feinstein and Marilyn Maye during their performance on Thursday, August 25; and 2014 finalist Nick Drivas made his New York Debut with a solo show on Tuesday, August 30.

In addition, Maddie Baillio and Nick Ziobro both appeared with the Pasadena Pops during their 2016 summer season. We are so excited that our Songbook Academy participants are sharing the music of the Songbook all around the country!
