NOVEMBER'S BANK OF HAWAII FAMILY SUNDAY INSPIRED BY HO‘OULU HAWAI‘I: THE KING KALĀKAUA ERA

Guests can learn about hula, lauhala and make royal order pins

HONOLULU, HAWAI‘I—In tandem with King Kalākaua's birthday on Nov. 16 and our milestone exhibition Ho‘oulu Hawai‘i: The King Kalākaua Era, the museum is excited to host Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday: Ho‘oulu Hawai‘i on Nov. 18. 

Families will receive a Gallery Hunt activity as they enter the museum and once completed, can turn it into a volunteer for a chance to win a Ho‘oulu Hawai‘i goody bag! One winner will be selected. 

Weaving club Ulana Me Ka Lokomaika‘i will be in attendance to help kids create fish and stars out of lauhala. 

Guests are encouraged to visit Ho‘oulu Hawai‘i:The King Kalākaua Era to see royal orders from around the world and then head to Kinau Courtyard to make their own royal order pin! 

At 11am-12pm, Pua Ali‘i ‘Ilima will perform with kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine and Jeff Takamine. 

Afterwards, from 12:30-1:15pm, families are invited to join the hula dancers and learn basic hula.

About Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday
Since 2004, the third Sunday of every month at the Honolulu Museum of Art has been free to the public, thanks to Bank of Hawaii. Each event features a program of art activities, entertainment and demonstrations held throughout the museum. See more information about the event.

SPALDING HOUSE FAMILY DAY: Ho‘oulu Hawai‘i
Families can ride the museum’s free shuttle up to Spalding House in Makiki Heights, where the museum has more free art fun. Kids can join Nancy Kulp for storytelling and make prints with stamps inspired by Hawaiian designs.

Admission (permits entry to both museums on the same day):

$20 general admission; $10 Hawai‘i residents and active duty military living in Hawai‘i; children 18 and under are free.
