Dear Artists Rep Subscribers,
After nearly 20 years and the thrill of creating 50 productions for Artists Repertory Theatre I feel it is time to follow Allen and leave my position at the theatre. It has been such a glorious adventure watching this theatre grow from its guerilla days at the Y (what a great space that was and how I loved directing the closing production there, Love! Valour! Compassion!) to the amazing space we now call home. While it is has been a privilege and a joy throughout, I am excited to move on to many new wonderful opportunities creating work in new spaces, new cities and new genres. Allen and I are a team and I really cannot imagine continuing on as an Associate Artistic Director to anyone else.
I have always been excited by the chance to work in as many places and with as many companies as possible. I am also intrigued by the possibility of expanding my work into film and opera, two passions I haven’t had enough opportunities to explore.
Artists Rep will always be home to me and it has been the place where I have done the body of work I am most proud of: 50 deeply rewarding, varied and fulfilling productions. It is impossible to single out favorites but I will never forget the experience of bringing Next To Normal, Streetcar Named Desire, Assassins and the Chekhovs to life here. The three pieces I had the honor of directing Allen in – Breaking The Code, Death Of a Salesman and The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia? – are among the greatest experiences I have had anywhere, anyplace.
Artists Rep is a unique theatre with an incredible, peerless audience (I loved getting to know you through post show discussions, director's dinners, opening night parties and galas) – I am deeply grateful and proud to have had a part in its growth and magical transformation. I hope to be back often in both the audience and the rehearsal hall. I leave with a joyous heart and the excitement of looking ahead to many new opportunities to create more work and more memories.
Yours,
Jon Kretzu

From Allen Nause…
“Jon's contributions to Artists Rep are simply immeasurable,” said Allen Nause, Artists Rep's Artistic Director. “We have worked side-by-side to craft the artistic voice of Artists Rep over the past 20 years. Jon always brings a unique, incisive perspective to his work. Jon was always my favorite director to work with as actor. He is a dear friend and brilliant collaborator whose artistic aesthetic has significantly shaped Artists Rep into the premiere regional theatre company that is 30-years strong today.”
