Franz Lehar's The Merry Widow

Meet the cast of The Merry Widow! Lead soprano Sally Dibblee (the widow Hanna) has enjoyed great success on stages and concert halls throughout North America, while baritone Michael Nyby (Danilo) has been praised by Musical Toronto and the New York Times for his performances.

Bios of the full cast, directed by Brent Krysa and conducted by Peter Dala, can be viewed online

Over the summer, we've been spending a lot of time prepping for next season, and there's so many (different) reasons we're looking forward to The Merry Widow, Carmen and Maria Stuarda. Single tickets are now on sale for each production, but if you can't decide which one to see, season tickets for all three operas is the best option!

If you have already purchased your season subscription, expect to receive your season package in mid-September. We look forward to seeing you!

The large principal cast and chorus for this production creates a grand opera experience, said director Brent Krysa, adding that the spectacle is set in a similar time period and locale as Moulin Rouge

"I think in The Merry Widow, [the audience will] be surprised at how many tunes they know," he said. "It's the type of opera you go to, and you say, 'Hey, I know that. I don't know where I know that from, but I definitely know the music.'"

On Aug. 29, two EO chorus sopranos, one mezzo-soprano and EO's volunteer photographer have a #licensetotrill, during Northern Light Theatre's Battle for the Limelight. By participating in a citywide scavenger hunt against other Edmonton theatre teams, #licensetotrill is raising funds to support chorus outreach — performances and workshops in the community — throughout the season. You can support them and get cool perks in the process too!
