Matilda The Musical won four of the twelve Tony Awards it was nominated for on Sunday night: Best Featured Actor, Best Book, Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting Design. Many congratulations to Gabriel Ebert, Dennis Kelly, Rob Howell and Hugh Vanstone and to our American Matildas who were awarded a Tony Honor for Excellence.
“We are so proud to win an amazing four Tony Awards and for all our Matildas to receive a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre. It’s an honour to be on Broadway and we want to pay tribute to the fantastic American cast and crew who have worked on the show since January and to the incredible response we have had from New York audiences.
The RSC’s production of Matilda The Musical has come a long way since Liccy Dahl approached us in 2003 and asked us to bring Roald Dahl’s story to life in the theatre. We’ve nurtured this very special show for almost a decade, thanks to public investment and philanthropic support, and it’s great to share it with so many people.”
Gregory Doran, RSC Artistic Director
