New Victory Teaching Artists Working with New Pre-K Teachers

Dear friend of The New Victory,

This year, as you may know, New York City started a vast and ambitious expansion of pre-kindergarten in this, the nation's largest school system—more than doubling it in eight months, and certifying hundreds of new teachers to educate the youngest students.

Recognizing The New Victory Theater as a leader in the field of performing arts education, the NYC Department of Education commissioned the New Victory Education Department to lead a series of professional development workshops for these newly-certified Pre-K teachers.

New Victory Teaching Artists—the same ones who spend time with you and your family at the theater—are teaching these educators how to bring student-centered and imaginative arts practices into their classrooms, strengthen their understanding of art forms and provide strategies on how to build cohesive and comprehensive early childhood curricula with new theater-based teaching techniques. The series supports the New York City Department of Education's Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, Common Core State Standards and NYS Learning Standards.

All of us at The New Victory and The New 42nd Street are honored to participate in this initiative—the first of its kind in the country—in this important way. I encourage you to read more about Professional Development at The New Victory on our website. Through your ongoing support, you’ve helped solidify The New Victory Theater as one of the largest providers of performing arts and arts education experiences to New York City schools.

Warmest regards,

Cora Cahan
