March Monthly Newsletter

Construction has officially begun on the new Cincinnati Ballet Margaret and Michael Valentine Center for Dance!

It’s really happening! On February 4, members of the Cincinnati community joined us to ceremoniously break ground on our new home. Be sure to keep an eye on the building’s progress if you find yourself on Gilbert Avenue.

We look forward to a bright future in the expanded space, but we can't get there without the help of generous community supporters. Visit the link below to donate to the project today! We’re so excited to move with you in summer 2021.

Spring Production

Tickets On Sale Now!

Tickets for all of our Spring Production performances are on sale as of TODAY! An email went out to all participating families this morning with details on how to purchase your tickets. Classes are now hard at work on their pieces for our end of year performances and can’t wait to share with you in May at SCPA.

Volunteers Needed!

We’re also actively recruiting volunteers to support rehearsals and performances this spring. All parents who volunteer get one free ticket to the Spring Production performance of their choice!

Summer Programs

Kids Dance Camp

Registration is now open for our popular summer dance camps for ages 4-8! Kids Dance Camp celebrates the Summer of Dreams in 2020 as we venture over the rainbow and under the sea to explore favorite story ballets, including The Wizard of Oz (June 1-5), Cinderella (June 8-12) and The Little Mermaid (July 27-31). We hope you’ll join us (and invite a friend!)

Youth Summer Intensive

Registration is now open, and some programs are filling quickly! We hope to see many of our young dancers for this entrée into intensive summer training at a pace designed specifically for their unique stage of technical development. Youth Summer Intensive will take place June 15-26 and July 6-17 at the School for Creative and Performing Arts.

Summer Bridge

The Summer Bridge Program aims to keep students in peak physical condition between summer and school year training. For Levels 3 and up, the program will run June 1-5 and June 8-12. And returning for its second year, Level 1 Summer Bridge (for students who will transition from CD3 to Main Division Level 1 in Fall 2020) will now be offered TWO different weeks, June 8-12 and July 27-31. Registration will open for all Summer Bridge sessions in early March. We hope to see you there!

Summer Intensive

We hope to have opportunity to work with many of you this summer! If Cincinnati Ballet is your program of choice for Summer 2020, we encourage you to register as soon as possible. We’ll begin reaching out to waitlisted students this week, so enrollment options will become even more limited as we head into early March, and we sell out every year.

Adult Weekend Intensive

Academy parents, we hope some of you might join us for our second Adult Weekend Intensive at the end of May! This three-day summer program (May 29-31) is sure to kickstart your summer fitness while exploring new dance styles in a fun and supportive space. In just a few short days you’ll hone your technique while expanding your horizons with a community of fellow dancers and artists. Registration will open in mid-March.

Professional Training Division Showcase

On Saturday, March 7, we’ll join together to celebrate our Professional Training Division students with an in-studio performance for families and friends. This showcase will include a collection of repertoire our PTDs have learned throughout their year with us, many chosen because they’re special to our artistic leadership team. This gives our dancers the opportunity to shine in solos and pas de deuxs as they embark on the next steps of their careers. The Academy community is invited to attend this free showcase. No tickets are required! Just join us at 6:30 PM in the Kaplan Studio here at the Ballet Center.

ArtsWave Sampler

OTR Arts Day at Music Hall

March 14, 10am - 4pm, including a Cincinnati Ballet Performance at 10:15am

You may know ArtsWave from their annual workplace giving campaigns and their role as a critical funder of the arts in our region. Did you also know they’re Cincinnati Ballet’s biggest funder? As the community comes together for this year’s campaign, ArtsWave invites you to join us for OTR Arts Day, with support from Macy’s. Music Hall, Cincinnati’s historic arts icon, will open its doors to the public from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, March 14. Get a personal, hand-cut silhouette portrait, participate in a jam circle, and take a behind-the-scenes tour! At 10:15 am in the Wilks Studio, Cincinnati Ballet and members of the Snow White cast will present an interactive selection from the ballet.

On Stage: Snow White

Join us for this year’s Family Series at the Aronoff Center from March 28-April 5, a regional premiere of Snow White! This fun, hour-long, narrated, fully-staged ballet features Cincinnati Ballet Second Company (CB2) and Professional Training Division (PTD) dancers and many talented Academy students. It’s the perfect introduction to dance, even for the youngest members of your family.

On Stage: Director's Cut

Cincinnati Ballet presents a triple bill of three compelling contemporary works, including Artistic Director Victoria Morgan’s take on Maurice Revel’s Boléro, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Bloom, and Val Caniparoli’s Ibsen’s House. Boléro will feature a number of our Main Division students, as it shows the progression of young dance students to accomplished corps members to flawless principals.
