Written for orchestra with a title to be announced, the highlighted piece for the evening marks world-renowned bassist Edgar Meyer’s Colorado premiere of his first orchestral composition. Meyer is also the featured soloist on Bottesini’s Concerto for Double Bass No. 2. Spanish born Turina’s Danzas fantásticas adds a lively flair to open the evening, while audience favorite, Ravel’s Boléro, concludes the affair to leave you simply spellbound.
Lead by internationally renowned conductor Markus Stenz, this convivial concert brims with music as a celebration of life. Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony is jubilant and vibrantly atmospheric. Plus, violinist Karen Gomyo takes the stage to glorify Sibelius’ decadent and gleaming Violin Concerto in D minor.
Associate Conductor Christopher Dragon will guide you through the music of Bach, Mozart, and Haydn, at LISTEN/HEAR 101 — the first in our series of four casual sessions of live performance threaded with thoughtful talk-throughs to help you understand and truly hear symphonic music. Featuring Colorado Symphony Assistant Concertmaster Yi Zhao and Assistant Principal Viola Catherine Beeson.
