Introducing The Tech’s new exhibit: BioDesign Studio

Anyone who’s visited The Tech recently knows that we believe hands-on exhibits and programs are the best way to achieve our mission — to inspire the innovator in everyone. Now, we’re taking that commitment to an unexpected place with our newest exhibit, BioDesign Studio, which combines the mindset of the Maker movement with the promise of biotechnology.

A first-of-its-kind
DIY biology space

BioDesign Studio is the nation’s first permanent museum biotinkering space, where you’ll be able to play, tinker and design with the building blocks of life. Its five areas, including a 21st-century upgrade of our well-loved glowing bacteria exhibit, allow people of all ages to personally create with biology.

BioDesign Studio will inspire and equip the creative problem‐solvers of the future with a deep understanding of how biotechnology works, as well as its risks and rewards.

Biology is technology.

How would you use it to change the world?
