HUBBARD STREET'S YOUTH DANCE PROGRAMS: SUMMER CAMPS

Just a few spots remain in our Youth Dance Camps.

Our summertime programs for young people and families — continuing through August 22 — fill quickly and only a few spots are still open for many one-week camps.

Here’s a great example:

Creative Connections: Grades K-6
July 21–25, during Creative Connections, campers will study Capturing the Sublime by Taryn Kaschock Russell, originally created in collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. This piece explores the moment of inspiration, as expressed by master Italian Renaissance and Baroque artists. Campers will find their own inspirations through creative tools drawn from the visual arts.

Hubbard Street's Summer Intensives, at a glance

So many students. In the Chicago program this year, 119; at our satellite program in Iowa City, 67.

It’s a global community. Students attend from as far away as Brazil and Canada, and from all over the US.

No one’s in danger of getting bored. This week, students are training in ballet, Gaga movement improvisation, Pilates and yoga — and learning Hubbard Street repertoire and Horton Technique.

Their minds are dancing, too. One of many topical lectures includes a seminar with representatives from Career Transition for Dancers, a national organization for professional development. They're also engaging in learning sessions addressing the importance of nutrition, strengthening, injury prevention, proprioception, balance and cardiovascular conditioning for dance.

This is where it all begins. Some members of our acclaimed company — Alice Klock, for example — came first to one of our Summer Intensives. Many more Summer Intensive students go on to professional, international careers.

See what they’re up to: On Friday, July 25, Summer Intensive students perform in free, public showings hourly from 1–4 pm; please join us in applauding their hard work and dedication.

FROM OUR QUARTERLY IMPACT REPORT

Your support helps further Hubbard Street’s mission. Our mission makes an impact in our region and beyond.

This year, we’ve engaged audiences in Chicagoland and around the world. We’ve launched and expanded numerous Youth, Education and Community Programs.

Since March 2014 alone, we’ve toured Serbia, the Spoleto Festival USA, Dartmouth College and the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, offering master classes and performing works by Jirí Kylián, William Forsythe, Nacho Duato and Resident Choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo.

June 6, 2014, Hubbard Street 2 kicked off the outdoor Living Loop Performing Arts Festival with a free, one-hour presentation in Federal Plaza. Just a few hours later, we joined forces with the Harris Theater for our first-ever live simulcast, of our Summer Series program, for an audience of more than 3,000 loyal fans and first-time audience members.

For our 13th annual Inside/Out Choreographic Workshop, Hubbard Street and HS2 dancers created and performed 12 original works.

This spring, we launched our new Adaptive Dance Programs, expanding upon our Parkinson’s Project to support children with autism and physical disabilities.

Our teaching artists wrapped up the 2013–14 school year with our annual Youth Dance Showcase, which presented students' work to an audience of more than 500 parents, classmates and friends. We bring our nationally recognized, curriculum-based Education Programs into Chicago Public Schools every single day those schools are in session. These programs reach more than 5,000 students a year.

None of this work would be possible without your support. Find out more ways you can expand our impact and help us change lives through dance.
