Help us kick off the next 50 years in style by supporting the Salute to 50 Kickstarter! Our goal is to raise $5,000 to offset the costs of production for this chorus concert on Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at McDougall United Church. The concert will have current and former members performing opera's most powerful arias, from Edmonton Opera's last five decades.
Kickstarter is an online platform that allows organizations to fundraise for specific projects while providing unique and interesting benefits to its supporters. The project is only successful if we raise the full amount by the Nov. 11 deadline, so please consider a donation!
We are almost halfway through 50 Days of Opera, but there are still plenty of opportunities to join us for free performances and activities! Next week, join us in the Ledcor Theatre at the Art Gallery of Alberta on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. for Opera 101, where artistic personnel and academics will speak about the context of Salome. On Thursday, Oct. 10, the new collection for the Opera Art Project will be previewed at the Alberta Craft Council at 5 p.m. (please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org). And on Friday, Oct. 11, we'll be part of the Viva Verdi gala concert, celebrating the 200th anniversary of Verdi's birth. You can see the full calendar here. Thanks to everyone who has joined us in celebrating 50 years already!
The Salome cast has arrived and the rehearsals are underway at the Jubilee rehearsal hall — it was fantastic to listen to director Waut Koeken and designer Yannik Larivée explain their vision to cast and production crew earlier this week. Our season-opening production is at the Jubilee Oct. 26 (8 p.m.), and Oct. 29 & 31 (7:30 p.m.) — please call the box office at 780.429.1000 for tickets or purchase online. If you already have a Halloween costume in mind, we would love to see it on Oct. 31 (no hats, please).
You're invited to join us at The Experience, presented by Liquor Depot, on Oct. 24, 2013 at the Shaw Conference Centre, from 6 to 10 p.m. The event supports the University Hospital Foundation's Brain Centre Campaign to bring gamma knife technology to the University of Alberta Hospital, as well as supporting the Edmonton Opera's season-opening production of Salome. Pre-order your tickets today! We encourage you to show your support by purchasing a table-pack of 10 tickets. See you at The Experience!
