Internationally renowned Canadian artist David Altmejd’s The Vessel takes centre stage in a new exhibition opening this weekend.
David Altmejd: The Vessel is a monumentally scaled Plexiglas sculpture that exemplifies movement, transformation and the act of artistic creation. Bringing together a variety of materials in symmetry and harmony, including plaster casts of the artist’s own hands, The Vessel forms a body that is both frozen in space and alive with the energy of a swan in flight.
David Altmejd is an internationally acclaimed Canadian sculptor. Among his many accomplishments, Altmejd represented Canada at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007 and was the winner of the 2009 Sobey Art Award.
Presented by TD Bank Group
Showing alongside David Altmejd: The Vessel is Connections Collections, a selection of prints, sculpture, painting and photographs from the AGA collection. The selected works connect with the ideas of fragmentation, reflection, transparency and transformation highlighted in The Vessel.
