GASF Goes International!

Last month, Songbook Archivist Lisa Lobdell traveled to the United Kingdom to present at the "Putting It Together - Investigating Sources for Musical Theater Research" conference at the University of Sheffield. The photo at right shows Lisa participating in a panel discussion with archivists from the New York Library for the Performing Arts and the Library of Congress. We are extremely proud to be recognized as an international resource for research on the music of the Great American Songbook!

Songbook Masterclass at Rider University

On Monday, April 18th, Michael Feinstein presented a lecture and led a masterclass with Musical Theater majors at Rider University. Our 2012 Songbook Youth Ambassador, Nick Ziobro, is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Musical Theater at Rider. After sharing an overview of the history of the Great American Songbook, Michael critiqued seven student performers. He offered valuable feedback and insights while using humor to make them feel comfortable as they performed Songbook repertoire in front of their peers. We recently held a similar educational event in Palm Springs that was very well received- we are eager to offer more of these opportunities, so stay tuned for more information!

2016 Gallery Exhibit
Achieves Record Attendance

In celebration of Indiana's 2016 Bicentennial, our latest exhibit, “The Great Indiana Songbook: Two Centuries of Hoosier Music,” opened in February. We're excited to report that attendance figures for our 2016 exhibit have shattered past records. Our March and April numbers are the highest we've ever experienced! We could not be more pleased to be sharing Indiana's musical history, including the Songbook and other genres, with our Exhibit Gallery visitors.

Would you like to visit? We’re open from 10am to 4pm Monday through Friday, and also one hour before Jazz and The Stratford Songbook Series performances and select additional events that are held at the Palladium.

Even if you can't make it to our campus, you can still visit the Songbook Exhibit Gallery. Our Library & Archives intern Taylor Scott has created a virtual tour of the exhibit that you will certainly enjoy.
