HONOLULU, HAWAI‘I—Every year, Halloween kicks off early in Honolulu at ARTafterDARK, the Honolulu Museum of Art’s monthly art party. This year the theme is Kings & Queens, and the museum can’t wait to see the royal costumes come out on Oct. 27. The evening is sponsored by iichiko.

This is the last ARTafterDARK of the year. The event resumes Jan. 28 with ARTafterDARK: Kiss Kiss Bang Bhangra, which coincides with the museum’s annual Bollywood Film Festival.

The event includes a costume contest, and the museum especially loves art-related costumes. We’re still talking about the couple who were painted to look like a work by Roy Lichtenstein. And while costumes are encouraged, for the protection of the artwork, the museum has strict costume rules. Not allowed into the museum are:

• Weapons (real or toy) including but notlimited to guns, swords, bows and arrows, staffs, clubs, and axes.
• Costume accessories larger than 15 inches, including but not limited to wings, canes, tools, umbrellas.
These items should be left at home or in the patrons' vehicles. The museum has limited space behind the front desk for those who need to check in items.

• Masks

Making music will be DJ Revise and DJ Tittahbyte, while emcee Lady V will preside over the festivities.

Sponsor iichiko will have its own bar where guests can purchase Ambrosia, a specialty cocktail made of iichiko BLU, freshly pressed apple juice, lemon juice and cinnamon.

Guests can also purchase food from EAT Honolulu and drinks from Free Spirits Mobile Bartenders.
