After the sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, join us on Giving Tuesday to give back to charities and non-profits in the community! Today, we’re working with Kids Up Front to send kids and families in need to Mozart’s well-loved The Magic Flute. This organization networks with arts, sports and other entertainment groups to provide tickets to children and youth who otherwise wouldn’t have access to these opportunities.
For every $20 donation made, Edmonton Opera will provide a ticket for a child in need, and for every $100 donation, EO will provide tickets for a family to enjoy this epic fantasy tale in February. Donations can be made online or by calling the box office at 780.429.1000.
Edmonton Opera is a long-standing, integral part of the cultural fabric of the city, thanks to your support. Your donations not only help put opera on the Jubilee stage, but allow us to bring the art form to sometimes unexpected places in innovative ways, through community outreach events. Ticket sales account for only 29 per cent of our revenue — the rest comes from event revenue, sponsorships, grants and donations.
Each year, Edmonton Opera builds one of its productions (this season, The Magic Flute)in its north-end production facility, employing local tradespeople and theatre technicians. (And usually, the other two productions, either rented or purchased, still require some TLC from the talented carpentry, props, paint and wardrobe departments.) Mozart’s composition is already a family favourite, but with the brightly coloured palette for set and costumes, the angular set pieces designed to pop up, slide in and drop down just like a pop-up storybook, and explosive effects, this opera is sure to delight all ages. The EO chorus — local singers with a variety of training and professional pursuits — also is integral to this production, and their involvement throughout the season makes outreach and partnership events possible!
Your support is required for all of this to happen, and we are very grateful to all of our current donors, supporters and patrons. Don’t forget — donations made today will be recognized with tickets contributed to Kids Up Front!
