Familiar heartwarming fairytale, new breathtaking production!

This winter, witness the classic Cinderella story like you've never seen it before — set to Rossini's enchanting tunes and designed in exquisite 1950's glamour! So while you may still recognize 'the girl who rises from the ashes', our new production of Cinderella will transport you to the world of vintage high fashion for a night of laughs, romance, and non-stop entertainment!

Costumes by Deanna Finnman

The haute-est costumes in town

Cinderella costume designer Deanna Finnman loves haute couture, and draws inspiration from 1950's fashion to give this production a unique flair. In Cinderella, you will see some bright, bold, and beautiful costumes that reflect the opera's larger-than-life characters!

The women's costumes are particularly exciting, from Clorinda's puffy 'cupcake dress' to Tisbe's edgy leopard print look, bringing the best of high fashion to characters who are so obsessed with their outward appearance.

And of course, there is Cinderella's demure yet empowered personality, reflected in the radiant ball gown that sweeps everyone off their feet.

Scenic design by Melissa Cuerrier

Ready, set, pivot!

Scenery designer Melissa Cuerrier was immediately drawn to the fast-paced nature of Rossini's Cinderella. Throughout the opera, there are quick transitions and people moving around rapidly on stage, which means the set needs to keep up with these changes.

With that in mind, Melissa is interested in elements that can be moved and transformed, while also revealing something new in each scene. Not only that, the set will be placed forward, which means audiences get a more intimate experience of the opera!

As you can see above, the ball is an extravagant affair, with lots of levels and spaces for the singers to play. The special elements here, what look like regular columns, are actually a set device named periaktoi — these are triangle shaped pillars that rotate reveal a new setting each time!

What surprises will each transition bring? You'll have to find out at the show, of course!
