Dear Friend,
It’s been wonderful to welcome audiences back into the theater and share the unmatched experience of watching live performances! We are thrilled to be opening August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean – the first chronological work in August Wilson’s 10-play, Pulitzer Prize-winning Century Cycle that dramatizes African American life in the 20th century – on March 5.
In January, Beth Lewis joined our development team as Head of Donor Relations. Prior to joining PCS, Beth was the Managing Director at Bag&Baggage Productions in Hillsboro. We are delighted to welcome her!
We hope you will join us on February 26 for our 2022 virtual gala. This free event will feature a behind-the-scenes look at our 2022-2023 season, wonderful performances, and opportunities to support PCS and the theater you love.
We are grateful for your support and we consider you a true partner who helps advance our mission and values — thank you! Staying connected is deeply meaningful to me, and I am only a short email or phone call away. Please reach out if you’d like to chat and learn more about the work happening at PCS.
With warm regards and gratitude,
Luisa Adrianzen Guyer
On stage right now, Hedwig and the Angry Inch — in a sold-out run! — is blowing the roof off the Ellyn Bye Studio. The show transports us to an abandoned mall with the exquisite Hedwig and Yitzak whose music makes audiences feel seen and held, night after night.
Up next, August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean cries out “Live!” in such gorgeous, profound ways; I was in tears at the table read on the first day of rehearsals with Chip Miller’s amazing team speaking these words into the world.
Thank you for all of your support! I look forward to seeing you online and at the theater.
Streaming live from The Armory, Masters of Ceremony Marissa Wolf and Chip Miller will host this celebratory evening in support of PCS! Join them, and special guest Isaac Lamb, on Saturday, February 26, at 7 p.m. as they introduce several extraordinary performances, including a dance piece choreographed by Raven Jones and performed by Latoya Lovely, an original song from our exciting musical-in-development, Hombres, by commissioned lyricist and co-creator Michelle J. Rodriguez, an excerpt from Lauren Yee’s new work, Young Americans, performed by Kenneth Lee and Barbie Wu, and an excerpt from Sávila’s beautiful and imaginative Earth Without Borders/Tierra Sin Fronteras. Support PCS by raising your paddle during the general appeal, bidding on auction items, or buying raffle tickets! The virtual gala is free to all — RSVP today.
Tuesday, March 29 • 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. • Free

Our Community Values
Theater often brings productive discomfort to the surface. Portland Center Stage is committed to grappling with that discomfort, on and off the stage, and we invite members of our community to participate in that growth process with us. Our goal is to co-create safety for our community by identifying and interrupting instances of racism and all forms of oppression, when we witness them, through specific actions rooted in the principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA).
