Relishing the Romantic Greats

Dvořák Symphony No. 7 • OCT 18–20 • Boettcher Concert Hall

Conductor Alexander Shelley makes his Colorado Symphony debut leading a program of musical giants. The performance begins with two cornerstone works by Tchaikovsky as cellist Cicely Parnas presents Variations on a Rococo Theme followed by the Romeo and Juliet Overture, a magical fantasy based on Shakespeare’s famous tragedy. Finally, Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7 offers a sinister, emotional composition full of dark sonorities and biting rhythms, capping a night of energizing masterworks.
