Dear Educators,

We are happy to inform you that we are now accepting applications for our Young Writers of Color Collective for the 2018-2019 season! If you have students who may be interested in YWoCC, the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre can arrange for one of our representatives to come speak to your students about our programs. Please email us at teencouncil@berkeleyrep.org if you are interested. You may also nominate a student by filling out the teacher nomination form below.

The program is completely free, we provide dinner at many of our functions, as well as BART cards to students who may need help with transportation.

The deadline to apply is Tuesday September 11, 2018. Interviews will be September 12-21.

ABOUT OUR PLAYWRITING PROGRAMS

YWoCC

The Young Writers of Color Collective (YWoCC) is a free year-long playwriting apprenticeship for emerging writers of color in grades 9th-12th and/or ages 14-17. Participants will complete in-depth writing workshops, witness a professional rehearsal process, and create original works to be workshopped at Berkeley Rep at The Ground Floor.

Rough Draft

Prior to all YWoCC meetings, there will be a free playwriting workshop for all teens who sign up. Rough Draft provides young writers with the opportunity to be led by professional playwrights through rigorous writing exercises while also having the opportunity to produce their own plays.

Bring your students to the Theatre! For only $10 per student, middle and high school students can attend theatre with their classes as part of the Student Matinee Series—plus, a complimentary chaperone ticket is included with every 10 student tickets purchased. Performances listed as student matinees are reserved exclusively for student groups and include post-show Q&A sessions with the cast.
