Compelling drama unfolds as two lifelong friends make a business deal

Audiences can expect a tense and powerful drama when our latest new co-production Approaching Empty parks up North here at Live Theatre from Wed 6 - Sat 23 Feb, following it's run at Kiln Theatre in London.

Written by award-winning, Middlesbrough born and based, former taxi driver, Ishy Din (who also writes for Channel 4's Ackley Bridge) you are invited to follow events set in a North East minicab office as manager Mansha offers to buy the business from owner and lifelong friend Raf.

With dark humour, compelling twists and entertaining characters from a stellar cast, the state of the company slowly becomes clear sparking the question: Is it ever a good idea to go into business with those closest to you?

A Word From Writer Ishy Din...

I’m delighted that Approaching Empty is coming to Live Theatre in my native North East.

Approaching Empty is about middle-aged Asian men that came to England in their early teens and have spent a majority of their lives here, yet have a clear idea of what they left behind. They end up working together one becoming the boss of the other. The state of the society they live in is the result of decisions that were made in the 80s and that change of policy and trickle-down economics, which, in my opinion, hasn’t worked out.

It’s important that we really investigate and interrogate what’s going on today by examining what the cause of the problems were...
