CANCER RESEARCH: THE LATEST

NEWSFLASH

Featured Speaker: Kathleen Calzone
Thurs., Apr. 23 at 6:45 PM

The traditional methods of fighting cancer— surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation—are blunt, harsh weapons. New research is focusing on more subtle methods, like precision medicine, treatment that takes into account individual variations in each person’s genetics, environment, and lifestyle. Or using a reengineered polio virus to kill cancer cells. Or immuno-oncology, rallying the body’s own immune system to turn on cancer tumors. We’ll get the latest news from the front lines of the war on cancer, and explain the research in realistic and understandable terms.

Kathleen Calzone is a senior nurse specialist (research) at the National Cancer Institute. She is nationally known for her work in nursing genetics/genomics competencies and has wide experience in research studies and publication of results.
