October Monthly Newsletter

Welcome to our 2019-2020 Academy Year! Each new year brings with it new opportunity not just for world-class training but to discover the joy of dance and the many ways it encourages young people and builds community. I love seeing longtime dancers and new faces alike here at the Ballet Center each day. You are all such an important part of the future of this Academy! We have so much to celebrate in the year ahead and look forward to being a part of your students’ lives and watching them grow as dancers and as people. Here's to a wonderful year of dance!

- Sarah Hairston, Academy Director

Welcome New Staff

Meet Maura Korn, Cincinnati Ballet’s new Student Services Manager. Maura is a Cincinnati native with a background in collegiate and high school admissions and a passion for dance. As Student Services Manager, Maura supports our Academy and Education students outside the studio through academic and housing support, community events, and more. With her guidance, we hope our students and families will be able to make the most of their Academy experience.

Meet Carolyn Clifford, Cincinnati Ballet’s new Director of Education and Community Engagement. Carolyn joins us following a four-year tenure at Playhouse in the Park where she most recently served as their Associate Director of Education and Community Engagement. Originally from the New Orleans area, she pursued a career path as a professional dancer before shifting to a focus on arts education and engagement. With extensive experience in on- and offsite community programs, audience development, curriculum design, administration, choreography and stage direction, she will serve as a seasoned and creative leader to champion our Education & Community initiatives.

2019 Professional Training Division

The Academy's third class of Professional Training Division students has been hard at work since early August. The PTD program continues to grow this season with dancers from 12 states, including 6 returning dancers and 16 2019 Summer and Collegiate Intensive participants. You may have seen these talented dancers perform at last month’s Academy Open House, and they’re now preparing to present The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra at the Fitton Center. They’ll perform in more Academy and Education programs as well as select Cincinnati Ballet Company productions throughout the 2019-2020 Season, all while training to make the full transition from student to professional dancer.

College Fair

The Greater Cincinnati Dance Alliance will host its 8th annual Dance and Musical Theater College Fair on Sunday, October 6, from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the School for Creative and Performing Arts. The event is free and open to current high school students and is an excellent opportunity to meet representatives from schools across the country. Click HERE for more info or to register.

On Stage

Follow the yellow brick road to a land of enchantment. Choreographer Septime Webre transforms The Wizard of Oz into a magical ballet with music by Matthew Pierce. Experience the regional premiere with dazzling sets, costumes, special effects… and of course, flying monkeys!
