The most important thing when casting Maria Stuarda is that the two queens vocally complement each other, and so we are thrilled to have Kathryn Lewek — fresh from her triumph at the Met as Queen of the Night — singing the role of Mary, Queen of Scots, with powerful, acclaimed soprano Keri Alkema portraying Elisabetta. Directed by Maria Lamont and conducted by Robert Dean, you can meet the rest of the cast here.
Before the season starts, enjoy EO Chorus performances in the community. Join us at Southgate Centre for classic French arias and architectural landmarks built of Lego during Parisian Friday (noon, Sept. 4) and Symphony in the City (Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. in front of the Winspear Centre).
Fans of costume dramas such as The Other Boleyn Girl, The Tudors and Downton Abbey will love this Tudor-era opera, with its lavish period costumes. Read our blog post about the production that plays with the idea that art becomes life and life becomes art, with comments from the director.
It's not long now until the beginning of the season! Don't miss out on any of the epic productions this year — season subscriptions for all three operas start at $99 and are still available, or single tickets for any opera start at $40.
If you have already purchased your subscription, expect to receive your season package in mid-September. We look forward to seeing you at the Jube!
