Lead by internationally renowned conductor Markus Stenz, this convivial concert brims with music as a celebration of life. Mozart’s final Symphony No. 41—also known as “Jupiter”—is jubilant and vibrantly atmospheric, and was deemed by Woody Allen as something that makes “life worth living.” Wagner drew upon birdsong and sunrise to honor the birth of his son and namesake of the bucolic Siegfried Idyll. Plus, violinist Karen Gomyo takes the stage to glorify Sibelius’ decadent and gleaming Violin Concerto in D minor.
Stravinsky's The Firebird is proof that persistence yields reward. Also, featured on this weekend of concerts is Principal Trumpet Justin Bartels.
We're pleased to introduce LISTEN/HEAR, casual sessions of live performance threaded with thoughtful talk-throughs to help you understand and truly hear symphonic music.
Enhance your concert experience! Join music journalist Marc Shulgold to explore the music and stories bestowed on us by Scandinavian composers. Start by listening to samples of the evocative melodies of Grieg and Sibelius, as well as the captivating music of Alfvén, Bull, Sinding, Nordheim, Nielsen and Halvorsen. Marc also shares the bumpy history of Sibelius' magnificent and demanding Violin Concerto, and for your final gathering, you'll attend the Colorado Symphony's performance of Sibelius's masterpiece with violinist Karen Gomyo—in a program that features Mozart's "Jupiter" Symphony No. 41.
