HONOLULU, HAWAI‘I—The September edition of the museum’s monthly art party promises to be one of the most stylish events of the year, with a focus on the hit exhibition Hawai‘i in Design, a fashion show, body painting, and design demos. The evening is presented by Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club.

ARTafterDARKers can explore Hawai‘i in Design and see how Hawai‘i’s urban and natural elements inspire island designers, whether through surfboards or T-shirts. Then guests can participate in an interactive light activity with exhibiting artist Joseph Pa‘ahana and local DJ group SPELLS. Fellow exhibiting artist Mark Chai, whose handcrafted wood lamps are on view in the show, will wander around the museum wearing a lamp hat that he debuted at ARTafterDARK as a Halloween costume in 2012. Who knows? Maybe Mark will even let guests wear the hat and take selfies—as long as they tag the museum, of course.

Visitors can see some of today’s hottest styles in a fashion show featuring local artists, including Project Runway All Stars season 5 runner up Kini Zamora. In addition, “visual performer” Chanel Tanaka returns to ARTafterDARK, where she’ll paint beautiful women’s bodies. DJ Godiva and DJ Betty turn the beat around in the museum’s courtyards.

Event sponsor Surfjack Hotel and Swim Club offers guests two opportunities to win big prizes: Those who join or renew their membership at the Supporting ($100) level or higher between Sept. 26 and Sept. 30 will be entered into a drawing to win a two-night stay in a Surfjack one-room bungalows. Visitors can also pick up a Surfjack passport—those who get it stamped at the four listed museum sights (such as Mark Chai’s lamps) will be entered into a drawing for a chance at a two-night stay at Surfjack’s penthouse and a $50 dining credit for Mahina & Sun’s.

Free Spirits Mobile Bartenders serves drinks and specialty cocktails, while Street Grindz food vendor Mahina and Sun’s (located at the Surfjack, naturally) serves the food. Check the website closer to the date for the full menu.
