The first national tour of this year’s Best Musical Tony Award-winner DEAR EVAN HANSEN will play in Charlotte in the winter of 2019 as part of the 2018-2019 PNC Broadway Lights season. The winner of six 2017 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, DEAR EVAN HANSEN features a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson, a score by Academy Award and Tony Award-winning
composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and direction by 4-time Tony® Award nominee Michael Greif. Exact engagement dates and how to purchase groups and single tickets will be announced at a later time.
Open to performers and
spectators of all ages, Open Mic occurs about eight times a year, to provide the
Charlotte Region an opportunity to perform on the stage of Blumenthal’s
McGlohon Theater. Hundreds attend each event to see and hear instrumentalists,
singers, dancers, storytellers, poets, jugglers, magicians, and other
performers of all ability/skill levels.
Breakin’ Convention, one of Britain’s hottest annual events, sets out to break the mold by taking the energy and athleticism of street hip hop and fusing it with the values of the theater.
This year’s festival lineup included the Soweto Skeleton Movers (South Africa), Salah (France), Yeah Yellow (France), Protocol (U.K.) and Femme Fatale (U.S.), plus the work of Charlotte’s best graffiti artists who painted the Knight Theater’s interior columns with custom works for the festival. Learn more about the international dance crews here.
In addition to the main stage
performances, Breakin’ Convention 2017 took the community inside, out offering hip
hop culture with FREE preshow activities and entertainment, including DJs,
dancing, graffiti painting and more on the Levine Avenue of the Arts. Free
lunchtime performances also took place the week leading up to the
festival on the Levine Avenue of the Arts.
