What better way to mark the Smithsonian Associates’ 50th anniversary year than with 50 of some of the National Zoo’s most popular, unusual, and downright cutest animals?
The annual Breakfast at the Zoo is always a highly anticipated event that offers a rare opportunity for Smithsonian Associates members to enjoy the sights and sounds of the National Zoo before it opens to the public.
This year offers a special fun challenge: After enjoying a breakfast buffet and dancing to the music of DC-area roots rock superstars the grandsons, Jr. on Lion and Tiger Hill, embark on a scavenger safari to locate 50 different members of the zoo’s family.
As you locate animals including naked mole-rats, elephants, pandas, and screaming hairy armadillos, zoo keepers offer a look inside some of the animal houses along the way. And since this year’s event lasts from 8 to 11 a.m., there’s an extra hour to get wild!
