Artist Highlights for July 22

George Li, piano

Praised by the Washington Post for combining “staggering technical prowess, a sense of command and depth of expression,” pianist George Li possesses brilliant virtuosity and effortless grace far beyond his years. He captured the Silver Medal at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition and was the recipient of the 2016 Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Kent Tritle, organ

An acclaimed organ virtuoso, Kent Tritle is the organist of the New York Philharmonic and the American Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he is one of America’s leading choral conductors. Called “the brightest star in New York's choral music world” by The New York Times, he is Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City; Music Director of Musica Sacra, the longest continuously performing professional chorus in New York; and Music Director of the Oratorio Society of New York, the acclaimed 200-voice volunteer chorus. Annie's Spotlight

Anne-Marie McDermott

Bravo! Vail Artistic Director

With so much incredible music at Bravo! Vail it can be challenging to pick just one thing to highlight, but this week, there is no question in my mind. I first heard Hanzhi Wang at the 2017 Young Concert Artists auditions, where she was the first accordionist in the organization’s history to win. I was so impressed by her performances that I immediately invited her to Vail, and gave her the unusual platform of two solo concerts (in addition to several chamber music programs) because I feel so strongly about her musicianship. I had never heard anyone play the accordion as a “serious” classical music instrument before: Hanzhi Wang has opened up my eyes and ears to a whole new world of musical expression. And the world is taking notice, as Hanzhi was recently named July’s “New Artist of the Month” by Musical America.
