Dear Parents and Students,

We stand poised to step into history, our history, our new home — the Todd Bolender Center for Dance & Creativity. Summer will be over before we know it, and we are looking forward to our downtown grand opening events beginning Aug. 22.

This magnificent facility will enhance our quality dance training in the Academy Division, which you all know so well.

And we're pleased to introduce the new Studio Division. We’ll now be able to offer dance and fitness classes from Zumba© to tap, Pilates to Boot Camp and new 8-week sessions of Ballroom and Irish Step classes … and that’s just to start! I urge you to visit our website often and see what new classes we have added as we grow into our new downtown home.

This link will show you the array of Bolender Center grand opening events and free classes to experience from Aug. 22 thru Sept. 2. We hope you’ll share these opportunities with your friends and family. Make a date to come out and join us. Click Here

Don’t forget, our beautiful Johnson County campus at 95th and Nall is adding wonderful options for quality dance training as well. Zumba© (Monday evenings) and open teen jazz (Thursdays) are a couple of examples to choose from. Click Here

Kansas City Ballet School’s two campuses help ensure we better serve you, your children and our community.

Please enjoy the remaining days of summer. See you at the Bolender Center!

Sincerely,

Peter Pawlyshyn

Teacher Profile: Billie Mahoney

Billie Mahoney, Kansas City native, has spent her life traveling from Kansas City to New York City, Wisconsin to New Mexico, Korea to Japan… all in the name of dance.  This semester, Ms. Billie’s creative endeavors bring her to the studio floors of Kansas City Ballet’s new home, the Todd Bolender Center for Dance & Creativity, where she will instruct an Intermediate/Advanced tap class for adults.

Ms. Billie can recall when she first experienced the power of dance, in a 45-minute class, which introduced her to ballet, tap and acrobatics.  “Mother sent me to dance school when I was 4 years old so I would have a strong, healthy body,” Ms. Billie laughed and says, “and it worked!”

The spark lit within Ms. Billie during her first dance class soon turned into a burning passion, which would ultimately grow to define her. Her successful performing career includes touring with Bob Hope, performing musical theater with Bob Fosse, and a stint as a featured baton twirler center ring with Ringling Bros., and Barnum & Bailey Circus at Madison Square Garden. She also performed on major television shows such as “The Tonight Show,” “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “The Jackie Gleason Show” and more.  Ms. Billie preaches, “life is dance and dance is life. Dance is very demanding, but it’s worth it.”
