Chris Watson: Going With The Flow
Part of the ~Flow creative programme commissioned by Arts Council England
Wednesday 5th September
Northern Rock Foundation Hall, 7.45pm

This major new commission sees one of the world’s greatest sound recordists creating an acoustic journey down the River Tyne from its sources to the sea.

Going With The Flow is a unique soundscape, a seasonal time compression taking inspiration from the actions and rhythms of the river. Presented with visuals by Andy Greenwood.

Who is Chris Watson ?

Watson is one of the world's leading recorders of wildlife and natural phenomena. He has  recorded animals and natural sounds from all over the world for the BBC and many others, and was a founder member of Cabaret Voltaire. He puts a microphone where you can't put your ears.  Check out his album Weather Report or any of his field recording albums. Try this too. Turn off the lights and listen to this one.

What's this all about?

Going with the Flow is part of the ~Flow creative programme. ~Flow is a floating musical public artwork, moored on the north bank of the Tyne by the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. Commissioned by Arts Council England, it is part of the Cultural Olympiad in the North East, celebrating the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

What's so awesome about it? It's just tapes of a river, right?

If you've ever wanted to undergo sonic metamorphosis and follow the evolution of a living river from rainfall to sea, now's your chance.  It's going to be amazing. It's not pop music and we're not expecting any cowbell on the one and three - but if you want to lose yourself to sound for the evening, it's the one.

OK I get it, sounds awesome.

Thanks - we're looking forward to it too. For tickets, click below or visit the website.

Tickets: £7

Chris Watson is one of the world's premier recordists of natural sounds. Here he is, recording a fjord.
