No Tenors Allowed, March 24

Join us for No Tenors Allowed on Monday, March 24, at the Winspear Centre at 7:30 p.m. Jointly presented by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Edmonton Opera, this concert features three guest baritone singers — Gordon Bintner, Elliot Madore and Philippe Sly — with the ESO and the EO chorus.

Bintner is part of the 2013/14 COC Ensemble, while Madore continues as a member of the ensemble at Opernhaus Zurich. Since the 2012/13 season, Sly has been a member of the Adler Fellowship Program at San Francisco Opera.

Tickets are available through the Winspear box office.

Opera 101 Madama Butterfly

Join us for a multi-disciplinary panel about the context of Madama Butterfly, on Wednesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. in the Ledcor Theatre at the Art Gallery of Alberta. This panel discussion is a great way to get more information about the opera before it is put on stage on April 5 at the Jubilee.

The panel will be moderated by Stephan Bonfield, with panelists Aya Fujiwara (University of Alberta, department of history and classics) and Kim Mattice Wanat (Opera NUOVA).

This is a complimentary event, but please RSVP to education@edmontonopera.com. More information can be found on our website

The cast for Madama Butterfly  has arrived and music and staging rehearsals have begun — do you have your tickets?

This acclaimed production from Opera North in Leeds, England, is under the direction of Tim Albery with French soprano Anne Sophie Duprels returning to the title role. During her performance at Opera North, a Telegraph reviewer wrote "For sheer sweetness of personality, for sheer pathos, I have seen few to match her."

Tickets can be purchased online, through the mobile app or by calling the box office at 780.429.1000.

2014-15 season

Experience the Great Escape of opera next season, with three blockbusters planned: The  Barber of Seville, The Magic Flute  and Lucia di Lammermoor.  Each opera demands its principal characters perform a variety of cunning and clever exits, whether it's from a lecherous old man, from magical beings or from a constrained, loveless marriage.

Our subscription renewal campaign is now underway, and can be renewed or purchased online (please mark renewal in the notes) or by calling the box office at 780.429.1000. Don't forget subscribers get great savings and great benefits for purchasing all three shows!
